From Reactive to Proactive: Developing a Robust Preventative Maintenance Strategy

Preventative maintenance is essential for building systems to operate efficiently and meet their life expectancy. However, many colleges and universities face staffing shortages, continuous facility use, lack of funding, and other factors that make buildings and their system maintenance reactive. Many teams perform maintenance only after alarms, complaints, or malfunctions. By being more proactive and less reactive, preventative maintenance plans can lower maintenance costs, maintain and extend system life, save time for your staff, and increase occupant satisfaction.

1. Learn what encompasses a preventative maintenance plan and how to create one for your institution.
2. Discover what resources exist to enhance your plan.
3. Determine time frames and staffing requirements for your plan.
4. Learn how to discuss preventative maintenance with leadership, relaying the importance of a plan and requesting funding for a program.
